Estate Planning

Estate planning involves more than just having a will. It should include the ownership structure of all assets you own or control.

Estate planning is a way of ensuring that the assets held on your death are distributed;

  • to the appropriate people
  • at the appropriate time
  • in the most effective manner

We can assist you by assessing your financial situation and developing a strategy to help achieve your goals and objectives. It is important that the estate plan be reviewed each year. In particular, your will should be reviewed at the following events;

  • marriage
  • divorce
  • children attaining the age of 18 years
  • a change in legislation (tax or other) affecting the estate plan
  • a significant change in financial circumstance or asset structure

The estate planning process involves the integration, skills and expertise of all professional advisors such as financial planners, accountants and lawyers. Although it may be costly to involve all these professionals, their participation may end up saving you thousands of dollars in tax and legal fees.

More importantly, the integrative approach will help ensure that your estate plan provides sufficient assets on your death to be distributed to the appropriate people at the appropriate time.

Estate Planning can be broken down into the following components;

  • Wills
  • Discretionary Trusts
  • Powers of Attorney
