Business Start Up

If you have a business idea that you wish to make a reality, we are your first port of call because we will assist you in making your business model a reality.

Most people who start up a business do so because they have a good business proposition and the enterprise and commitment to see it through, not because they are experts in the legal or financial aspects of running a business.

These matters often seem daunting to the potential entrepreneur. The good news is that you do not need to be an expert in these fields to succeed in business.  All you need is a trusted business advisor.

That’s where we fit in. Bring us your business ideas and we can efficiently get your business up and running. We can;

  • form your business using the most advantageous tax structure
  • assess your finance requirements and advise on the best sources of finance
  • guide you through the maze of available Commonwealth and State government grants
  • register your business for ABN, GST, PAYG Withholding, TFN with the Australian Taxation Office
  • register your business with Workcover
  • register your business name with the Office of Consumer Business Affairs
  • provide advice and assist with the set up of suitable accounting system solutions
  • provide business advice regarding public liability, professional Indemnity and risk insurance

The Australian taxation Office has released a checklist for people starting a new business. This is a great starting point.

Company Secretarial

ASIC legislation requires companies to perform many administration tasks that take up a lot of valuable company time. As a business owner, the last thing you need to be concerned with is ensuring that you are compliant with the ASIC company laws.

The possible threat of penalties for failing to keep up with the changing rules is too great a risk to take.

At Finlay Financial Strategies, we are able to relieve this burden for you. Our company secretarial services include;

  • general advice on company law
  • company formations
  • filing of ASIC  annual returns on your behalf
  • preparation of all documentation related to Minutes and Resolutions
  • maintenance of statutory records
  • assistance in changes of  directors, shareholders, and office details
  • transfers of shares
  • registered office facility

Goods & Services Tax (GST)

Goods and Services tax was introduced by the Federal Government  in July 2000 and is charged on most transactions at a rate of 10%.

Any business operation (sole trader, partnership, trust, company) with an annual turnover of over $75,000-00 must register for and collect GST from their clients and then pay the tax collected to the Federal Government (Australian Taxation Office). Businesses pay the GST to the ATO by completing and lodging a Business Activity Statement (BAS).

Any business operation (sole trader, partnership, trust company, charity) irrespective of turnover must register for an Australian Business Number (ABN).

We have the resources and experience to efficiently deal with GST related matters and are able to assist you with your GST obligations.

We offer the following GST services;

  • GST registration and ABN applications
  • preparation and lodgement of BAS
  • training – we can educate you on how to prepare your BAS yourself
  • GST audit assistance
  • GST ruling assistance
  • GST advice
  • Margin Scheme

Accounting Systems Consulting

Accounting systems are powerful, accessible and affordable business management solutions.

Their major advantage over the old cash book method is that they alleviate the increasing administrative burden - eg BAS preparation – and provide business owners with the necessary insights to operate their businesses more successfully.
